Frequently Asked Questions
What do I have to do to ensure my child is enrolled?
If you are from a government primary school, return the notification of interest form to your child’s primary school by 29 May 2020. This will start the process and you will be contacted by our school in due course. Your child’s enrolment is subject to the Department of Education and Training (DET) placement guidelines.
If you are from a non-government primary school, download the notification of interest form and return it to Sunbury College by 29 May 2020. This will start the process and you will be contacted by our school in due course. Your child’s enrolment is subject to the DET placement guidelines.
Is my child guaranteed a place at Sunbury College?
If Sunbury College is your designated neighbourhood school then your child is guaranteed a place. See findmyschool.vic.gov.au for more information.
Many of our students choose Sunbury College even though we are not their closest school, so even if our school is not your designated neighbourhood school you may still be offered a place. The school considers things such as already-enrolled siblings and how close a student lives to the school when determining if an enrolment application will be accepted. A small number of applications may be accepted on specific curriculum grounds or compassionate grounds. Information regarding siblings is collected on the ordinary placement form which you return to your primary school, so no further action is required for a sibling application.
A curriculum grounds application would be based on the assumption that our school is the closest school that offers a particular program of importance to your child (such as Japanese or Instrumental Music). For specific curriculum or compassionate grounds, it is best to submit the Application for Enrolment Supporting Information Form and forward it to the Sunbury College Principal at firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Friday 12 June, which is two weeks after the Notification of Interest Form is due back to your child’s primary school. To access the form click here.
Who is my first point of contact if I have questions about the transition process?
The Year 6 Coordinator, Transition Coordinator or Principal of your child’s primary school can help you with any questions you may have about the transition process.
Can I have a tour of Sunbury College?
Unfortunately, tours of the college are still suspended due to COVID-19 and the Department of Education and Training’s remote learning guidelines.
Where can I find more information about the Department of Education and Training’s transition policy?
For parents/carers interested in understanding what policy governs the transition process, you can access the policy in the DET policy library available here. Our school, like all government schools, operates in accordance with the terms set out in this policy.
